Working in a Grenada hotel: pay, permits and hiring season
Last checked
Pay and the minimum wage
Grenada sets minimum wages by type of job. Under the Minimum Wages Order (S.R.O. 42 of 2023), in force from January 2024, the hourly minimum is, for example, EC$ 9.50 for cooks and bartenders and EC$ 9.25 for waiters (S.R.O. 42 of 2023). Check with the Department of Labour for any newer order. Pay is in Eastern Caribbean dollars (EC$ 2.70 to US$ 1); ask whether a job also includes service charge, meals and transport.
When hotels hire
Winter, from mid-December to April, is the peak for hotels. Grenada lies at the southern edge of the hurricane belt, and many yachts spend the hurricane season (June to November) in its marinas, so boatyards, marinas and waterfront restaurants stay busy in summer too.
Work permits
Non-nationals need a work permit, valid for up to a year; renewals should be filed three months before the permit runs out. Grenada issued 890 work permits in 2024 (Jamaica Gleaner, January 2025). Citizens of other OECS countries, and CARICOM nationals with a skills certificate, can usually work without one. See our work permit guide.
Getting to work
Most hotels are in the south-west, around Grand Anse, Morne Rouge, Lance aux Épines and True Blue, close to the airport and St. George's. Minibuses serve the area by day; ask about transport for late shifts.
How to apply
Apply on the job page in about a minute. Real employers never ask you to pay for a job, a uniform, training or a permit.
