Working in an Antigua hotel: pay, permits and hiring season
Last checked
Pay and the minimum wage
Antigua and Barbuda's minimum wage rose to EC$ 11.50 an hour on 1 April 2026, from EC$ 9 (WageIndicator, April 2026). Check the current rate with the Labour Department. Hotel pay is in Eastern Caribbean dollars (EC$ 2.70 to US$ 1). Ask whether a job includes a share of service charge, meals on duty and transport, and compare offers on the full package.
When hotels hire
The busy season runs from mid-December to April. Antigua is also a yachting centre: English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour are busiest in winter, ending with Antigua Sailing Week at the end of April, so marinas, yacht services and waterfront restaurants hire from the autumn. The hurricane season runs from June to November, and some smaller hotels close for a few weeks in September or October.
Work permits
Non-nationals need a work permit, which the employer applies for through the Labour Department, usually after advertising the job locally. Permits normally last a year and can be renewed. Citizens of other OECS countries, and CARICOM nationals with a skills certificate, can usually work without one. See our work permit guide and our guide to CARICOM free movement.
Getting to work
Resorts are spread around the coast, from Dickenson Bay and Jolly Harbour to Long Bay and English Harbour, and buses do not reach every resort at every shift time. Ask whether the hotel provides staff transport for early and late shifts.
How to apply
Apply on the job page in about a minute. Never pay anyone for a job, a uniform, training or a permit.
Working in Antigua & Barbuda: common questions

- The north-west, around Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay, has many large resorts. Jolly Harbour on the west coast and English Harbour and Falmouth in the south are also busy, with hotels, restaurants and marinas.
- Are there yacht jobs in Antigua?
- Yes. English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour are major yachting centres, especially in the winter season. Marinas, yacht services and waterfront restaurants hire there, and some yachts look for crew, chefs and stewards.
- Do Antigua resorts hire all year?
- Many resorts are open all year, and the busiest months are December to April. Some smaller hotels and restaurants cut staff or close for a short time in late summer.
